Mortuary Vandevenne

For Mouscron-based Funerarium Vandevenne (funeral parlour), Studio Clement designed an interior that is all about tranquillity, discretion and serenity. In a funeral home, the space itself contributes to the atmosphere: everything needs to be just right, without being intrusive. Which is why we opted for a restrained, timeless finish with soft tones and warm accents.

The circulation areas was designed as a serene ‘backbone’ throughout the building, with a clear layout and in observance of the appropriate privacy. Indirect light lines and subtle spotlights provide soft, even lighting that never feels harsh. Along with the natural materials (such as wood in the doors) and tranquil floor finishes, this acts to create a warm, uncluttered atmosphere that instantly puts bereaved families at ease.

The interior remains calm and meaningful in the details too: small alcoves with natural decoration, clean lines and a minimalist approach that leaves room for silence and remembrance. The result is a place that radiates and supports respect, a place of remembrance and a space of tranquillity.
